to unblock DAPA and Expanded DACA
San Diego, CA – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on President Obama’s new deferred action initiatives; Deferred Action for Parents of American Citizens and legal permanent residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). In response, the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium (SDIRC) will have impacted individuals and community leaders available for interviews at Alliance San Diego on Monday morning. Later that evening, the SDIRC will hold a community gathering and info session at Christ Ministry Center.
Spokespersons Available for Media Interviews:
Monday, April 18th, 10 am – 12 pm
Alliance San Diego, 4443 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92116
Community Gathering and Info Session on Deferred Action:
Monday, April 18th, 5:30pm
Christ Ministry Center, 3295 Meade Ave, San Diego, CA 92116
Background: Expanded DACA and DAPA will provide relief from deportation and help keep San Diego families together. With the 7th largest population of undocumented immigrants in the country, San Diego County has up to 98,000 individuals who are potentially eligible for these programs. Local leaders have already spoken in support of expanded DACA and DAPA and highlighted the ways our communities will benefit from them — last year, the cities of Chula Vista, Lemon Grove and San Diego unanimously passed resolutions in favor of these programs.
The San Diego events in support of the Immigration Administrative Relief Programs and immigrant families will take place in solidarity with “Fight for Families” actions that will be taking place on the Supreme Court steps and in more than twenty cities across the country.
